Magic Pages includes a Typesense-powered search out of the box. It's fast, it's relevant, and it's been one of the features customers love most.
Right now, this advanced search only finds posts and pages. That works for most cases, but it breaks down quickly. Want to find all posts by a specific author? Everything tagged with a particular topic? The current search can't do that.
The updates we are working on will add support for searching tags and authors directly. Type an author's name, and you'll see their profile alongside matching posts. Search for a tag, and you'll get the tag page plus all related content. It makes search feel like actual navigation instead of just a text matcher.
Teaser Results for Members-Only Content
If you run a membership site with paid or restricted content, you've probably thought about this trade-off: you want people to discover your best work, but you don't want to give it away for free.
Right now, members-only posts are invisible to search. That means your premium content – often the stuff you've put the most effort into – is completely hidden.
The new teaser search results change that. Non-members will be able to see that a post exists and get a preview – the title, an excerpt, maybe the feature image – without accessing the full article. Enough to understand what's behind the paywall and make an informed decision about subscribing.
It's a balance between discoverability and protecting your premium content. You'll be able to control how much is shown.
Search Statistics and Analytics
This is one I've wanted to build for a while. Once the search improvements ship, you'll also get access to search analytics in the customer portal.
You'll be able to see what your readers are actually searching for – which terms they use, how frequently, and whether they're finding results or hitting dead ends. If a search term consistently returns nothing, that's a content gap you can fill. If a specific topic keeps coming up, that's your audience telling you what they want more of.
The analytics will include:
- Top search queries: what your readers search for most
- Zero-result searches: queries that found nothing, surfacing content gaps
- Search volume over time: trends in how often search is used
- Click-through data: which results readers actually click on after searching
No third-party tracking, no external analytics services. The data stays on your Magic Pages infrastructure and is accessible directly from the customer portal.
When to Expect It
Tag and author search will land first, followed by teaser results and analytics. We expect this to ship in Q2 and Q3 of 2026.
