Magic Pages is reducing the maximum file upload size on Magic Pages from 1024 MB on the Pro plan to 200 MB. This is a direct consequence of the recent move from Bunny.net to Cloudflare, and we want to be upfront about why.
The Problem
Cloudflare's CDN proxy has a hard upload size limit depending on your plan. On the Business plan — which is what Magic Pages runs on — that limit is 200 MB.
Previously, with Bunny.net, there was no such restriction, so we could offer a generous 1024 MB upload limit. With Cloudflare now handling all traffic, any file upload over 200 MB gets rejected with a “request is larger than the maximum file size the server allows” error before it even reaches your Ghost instance.
We looked into several potential solutions but none really hold up with the realities of how Cloudflare or Ghost work.
What This Means For You
We checked the actual upload data across all 1,200+ Magic Pages sites. Out of millions of uploaded files, only 15 were larger than 200 MB. For 99.99% of uploads, nothing changes.
Most images, documents, and audio files fall well below 200 MB. If you're uploading large video files or podcast episodes, you may run into this limit – but as the data shows, that's extremely rare.
If You Need to Upload Larger Files
If you have a file that's over 200 MB, reach out via the live chat or email. We can upload it directly to your site's server, bypassing Cloudflare entirely. It's a manual process, but it works – and we're happy to help.
Why Not Just Stay With Bunny?
The Cloudflare migration brought real, measurable improvements: faster global load times, enterprise-grade DDoS protection, and – most importantly – the ability to block the Tor-based magic link spam attacks that had been a persistent problem. Since the move to Cloudflare many publishers reached out and reported less bot traffic on their site, showing that ultimately we've created a safer infrastructure.
The upload limit is a trade-off I'm not thrilled about, but it's one I'm making with eyes open. The security and performance gains benefit every single Magic Pages site, every day. The upload limit affects a small number of edge cases.
