Send Newsletters From Your Actual Domain

· Jannis Fedoruk-Betschki

When you set up a custom sending domain on Magic Pages, best practice is to use a subdomain like mg.yourdomain.com. It keeps your DNS clean and avoids conflicts with existing email providers like Google Workspace or Outlook.

So far, the tradeoff was that we restricted your newsletter's FROM address to that subdomain. So your emails had to come from [email protected] instead of [email protected] – the domain your readers actually know. The reason behind that was a surge of misconfiguration that led to deliverability issues in the past.

However, with the new DNS setup tool, we are now confident that we can guide you through the right DNS settings properly.

What we changed

Magic Pages eased the alignment between sending domain and FROM address. Your sending infrastructure stays on the subdomain where it belongs, but you can now send newsletters from your root domain.

If you're already using a subdomain for email and want to send from your root domain you can open Settings → Newsletters and update your FROM address to something like [email protected]. Ghost will accept it now.

If you're happy with your current setup, it will continue to work.
