Collect Delivery Addresses at Checkout

If your membership includes something physical, like a printed magazine, Stripe checkout can now ask new members for a delivery address and store it on their member record in Ghost.

A question came in recently from a magazine that sells a "print + online" tier: Stripe checkout asks new members for a card, but never for an address. So where does the printed magazine actually get sent?

Ghost 6.63 has an answer, and it's now available on Magic Pages on request.

You can switch address collection on for a single tier, so your digital-only members never get asked for something they don't need. When someone subscribes to the print tier, Stripe asks for a delivery address as part of checkout, and Ghost saves it onto their member record. You can limit it to the countries you actually ship to, and collect a phone number, a tax number, or your own extra question at the same time.

From there the address behaves like any other member data: it shows on the member's page in Ghost Admin, you can filter your members list by it, and it comes out of the CSV export as its own columns, ready to hand to whoever does your mailing.

Who this is for

Print magazines and zines, mostly. But also anyone whose membership includes something that has to physically arrive: a welcome pack, a book, an annual, merch that comes with the top tier.

Two honest caveats

It asks at checkout, which means it asks new subscribers. Someone who already pays you and switches to the print tier from inside the member portal doesn't go through checkout again, so they won't be asked. Those addresses you'd need to add by hand.

And a member who moves somewhere else can't update their own address yet. For now that's a quick edit in Ghost Admin.

How to switch it on

This is still an experimental feature inside Ghost, so it's off by default. Send us a message and we'll turn it on for your site.
