How to transfer your domain to Magic Pages
Move a domain you own to Magic Pages without downtime: the steps, how long it takes, and where GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS and others keep the code.
You can move a domain you already own from another registrar to Magic Pages in the portal. We copy your DNS records before anything changes, so your site and email stay up, and most moves finish within five days.
You stay the domain's owner, and you can move it on again whenever you like.
Before you start
- You need a paid plan. During a trial, the Domain tab asks you to upgrade first.
- The domain has to be old enough to move. Generic extensions like
.comcan't change registrar within 60 days of being registered or of their last move. That's an ICANN rule. A.chdomain can't move again within 60 days of its last move. - At your current registrar, get the domain's transfer code, sometimes called the auth code or EPP code. If the domain has a transfer lock, turn that off too. The check in step 2 tells you if it's still on. Where the most common registrars keep both is further down.
- If you're billed in the UK, we can only take on domains for businesses. Without a UK VAT number, the portal asks you to confirm the domain is for your business or publication, and to give its name.
- Check the email address on the domain is one you can read. Your current registrar may send a confirmation there.
.ukdomains move with a tag instead of a code:

Moving your domain, step by step
- In the portal, open the Domain tab. Under Registered with Magic Pages, click Move one here.
- Under Which domain do you want to move?, type the domain and click Check this domain. We ask the registry whether it can move right now and show you what the move costs. Nothing is paid or changed at this point. Click Continue.
- Check the DNS records we found for your domain. Remove anything you don't need, and use Add a record for anything missing. The records for your website are marked Managed, because we set those up. Click Continue.
- Fill in the owner's details, as you would when buying a domain, and click Save and continue. Check who it's Billed to, paste the code into Transfer code, tick both boxes and click Start the transfer. You pay on the next screen, without leaving the portal.
After that, the portal shows each stage: Payment received, Requesting transfer, Waiting for your current registrar, Moving DNS and Done. You can leave the page. The move carries on in the background.
Approve the email from your current registrar
Once we've requested the transfer, your current registrar may email the domain's contact to confirm it. Approving that email finishes the move sooner.
If nobody approves it, generic extensions like .com still move once your current registrar has had five days to respond.
How long it takes
Most transfers finish within five days. For generic extensions like .com, .net or .org, approving the move at your current registrar speeds that up. Some country extensions take longer. A .fr transfer can take up to 22 days.
If a transfer still hasn't finished after a month, it counts as failed. When a transfer fails, we refund your payment in full, and the domain stays where it was. The refund can take up to 10 business days to show on your statement.
What happens to your registration period
The check in step 2 tells you whether a year is added. In detail:
- Generic extensions like
.com, and most others, get a year added to the time they already have, up to ICANN's limit of ten years. .deand.bestart a new registration period, a year from the day the transfer finishes..at,.ch,.nl,.ukand.co.ukkeep the end date they already have.
When the registry charges nothing for the move, the check says Free to move, and you first pay at the domain's next renewal.
If the domain can't move yet
The check stops you before you pay and says why. The most common reasons:
- This domain is locked. Turn off the transfer lock at your current registrar. It may be called the registrar lock. Then check again.
- This domain can’t move yet. It's inside a waiting period that nobody can shorten, and the portal shows the date it ends.
- This domain has expired. Renew it at your current registrar first.
Where to find the lock and the code
Every registrar puts these in a different place. Here's where the most common ones keep them, checked against their own help pages on 19 October 2026. Menus change, so if yours looks different, the registrar's guide linked below has the latest steps.
GoDaddy
In your Domain Portfolio, select the domain and start the transfer to another registrar from its transfer options. GoDaddy then shows a link to reveal the authorization code, and also emails it to the domain's registrant address. GoDaddy turns domain privacy off as part of this. To speed the move up afterwards, approve it under your outgoing transfers. GoDaddy's guide has the full steps.
Namecheap
Go to Domain List, click Manage next to the domain, and open the Sharing & Transfer tab. The Transfer Out section is where you unlock the domain and get its code. Namecheap emails the code to the domain's registrant address, which isn't necessarily your account email.

IONOS
On the Renewal & Transfer page, in the Domains section, select the domain, disable Domain transfer lock, and click Show Authorization Code. It can occasionally take several minutes for the code to appear.

STRATO
STRATO only gives out the code for a domain you've cancelled in your package. In the STRATO login, open the package, go to Domains and then Domainverwaltung, and click Authcode anfordern next to the domain. STRATO emails the code to the domain owner within 24 hours.
Squarespace
Domains that were with Google Domains are now with Squarespace. Unlock the domain and request its transfer code in Squarespace's domain settings, as described in their guide.

Cloudflare
Go to Manage Domains, click Manage next to the domain, then Configuration, Unlock and Confirm and Unlock, and copy the code. If you lose it, Regenerate gives you a new one. Once the transfer request reaches Cloudflare, you can approve it there to start the move at once. Otherwise it goes ahead on the fifth day.

A .de domain
Ask your registrar for the AuthInfo code. It's valid for 30 days, so start the transfer before then.
